about this tour

It has been 20 years since we ran our last rail enthusiast tour on the White Pass & Yukon Railroad and we think it is time to offer this very popular tour again. Oh how the time flies by. Many of you have been asking us about this railroad and if we would consider offering another tour. We hear you and to our delight we are moving forward to offer this tour again.

Be sides the railroad being under new ownership a lot has changed on this railroad as new diesel power is taking over the duties of the classic GE Shovel Nose diesels and the Alco low hood units that all of us have come to love. Steam locomotive No. 73, a 2-8-2 Baldwin is still available for special trains as is the last couple operating GE Shovel Noses and Montreal low hood units but who knows how much longer these classic engines will be around to pull trains.

The railroad has agreed to give us three operating days in late September to operate a number of charters using No. 73, the Shovel Noses and Montreal motive power. We will begin our charters on the east end of the railroad at Carcross instead of Skagway because by the 3rd week of September many of the hotels in Skagway are closing down for the winter. So we will base our operations out of Whitehorse, Yukon making the hour charter motorcoach ride to Carcross each morning and return each evening.

We are still working out the final daily itinerary and will have that posted on our website in the next few days.
