about this tour

Scenic Railway of the World, Gateway to the Yukon is the Slogan the White Pass & Yukon Railway has used since 1898.  There is no other railroad quite like the White Pass, running through some of the North's most ruggedly beautiful terrain on 3.9% grades, with steam and unique diesels.  After completion in 1900 it was considered the engineering marvel of its time.  This railroad is carved along sheer rock cliffs, runs over sky-high wooden trestles, and through tunnels.  Indeed, the rugged Alaska, British Columbia, and Yukon terrain and scenery are awesome.

Our last set of charters that we ran on this narrow gauge railroad was in 2004.  We also ran charters in 2003, 2001, 2000, 1998, and 1997.  After the 2004 tour railroad management did not want to run any additional railfan charters because they were operating so many cruise ship trains.  Recently ownership and management has changed and the new owners have agreed to run our planned charters after the cruise ship rush of trains is completed for the year.  We are looking forward in returning to the White Pass & Yukon Railroad.

We will have three charter trains pulled by steam and diesel.  Steam locomotive No. 73, a 2-8-2 Baldwin built in 1947 will be used plus a General Electric unique shovel nose diesel and an Alco/Montreal low hood DL535.  Our charters will cover the entire mainline between Skagway, Alaska and Carcross, Yukon, a distance of 68 spectacular miles.   Plenty of photo run-bys will be made each day.
