Come join us for a one day photo charter on the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad with a mixed train consist on August 3, 2024. The charter will be pulled by steam locomotive No. 463 and will operate operate from Antonito to Osier and return.
No. 463 is a K-27 class 2-8-2 Mikado built by Baldwin in 1903. She is one of two remaining class K-27 locomotives. the other one being No. 464 located on the Huckleberry Railroad in Michigan. This class eventually became known by the nickname "Mudhens".
Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad No. 463 will be reletterd for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad in the famous Flying Rio Grande herald. Plenty of photo run-bys will be made both directions.
Emphasis will be made to re-creating a “Chile Line” train. The Chili Line which was officially known as the Santa Fe Branch ran 126 miles south out of Antonito, Colorado to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Chili Line was completed in 1887 and was closed in 1941.
Departure from Antonito will be at 7:00am with a planned return at 6:30pm. Within an hour after the arrival back in Antonito a two hour night photo session will be offered. No more than 60 tickets will be sold so that there is plenty of room at the photo run-bys. This will also ensure that plenty photo run-bys will be offered.
