In many respects, the great changes in China since the 1990s have parallels with USA during the first decades of the Twentieth Century. In the case of China, a steam-based network has catapulted into the era of high speed rail, still expanding as of 2024. On this tour, we will experience both modern and traditional aspects of Chinese railroading including steam, diesel and electric operations. We will also offer some rare industrial narrow gauge operations. All in all this will be a most interesting educational tour for the railfan.
The hospitality of the people – and railway staff in particular – has been most welcoming over the many years running tours to China. Over the many years running tours in China they have allowed us to visit places very difficult or impossible to access in western countries. There will also be time to explore and enjoy the local culture.
